James Adderley has Sports Monday

Story Picture
Good evening, I’m James Adderley and this is your fresh slice of Sports Monday. It was supposed to be a biggie Friday in semi-pro basketball as the Kremendala Raiders and Brothers Habet Lakers locked horns in a final bid to make the championship round against BTL Nets already waiting in the wings.

The Raiders opens the scoreboard on the long three from Roger Favela looking to hurt his old team. The Lakers responds with this behind the back pass by Compton “Speedy” Staine to Dwight Myvette for the easy two.

It’s a three-point lead for the Lakers when Kirk “Shabba” Smith goes to strong to the left hand and the bounce. But watch, “Bart” Sanchez abuse “Too Tall” Jones for a sustained dunk, which fires up the Krem Team.

Dwight Myvette and Speedy Staine then reverse roles on this collaboration for two Lakers points giving them a five-point lead. The Raiders face a seven-point deficit when Fabian Pitman beats the Lakers to the hoop with the left hand. The other American import for the Raiders, Maurice Bulloch gets two Krem points off Claude “Too Tall” and at the half the Lakers’ lead is one.

Meanwhile the Lakers come out firing after intermission as Myvette finds Sean Campbell who banks home two. When Favela misses this three, watch Pitman climb the stairs for a crucial tip in for the Raiders. This timely three from Evan “Duck” Garnett keeps the Raiders rolling. At the other end Dwight Myvette sinks this sweet shot for two of his team high 13 points.

Fabian Pitman nevertheless comes back with this big three for the Raiders he would finish with seventeen points to become one of the three players in double figures in scoring.

One thing for sure though folks, this foul on Compton “Speedy” Staine by Darwin Carter almost deserves the flagrant call. But it’s this play that damages the Lakers ability to win as “Shabba” Smith twists his ankle in a battle for the rebound with Angus “Walla” Cherrington and as a result has to abandon the ballgame?with nine points and game high eleven boards.

The Raiders take full advantage – Bart Sanchez gets bottled up, but Keith Acosta follow the miss shot for the put back – he would finish with eighteen points, seven rebounds. In fact Keith Acosta simply takes over the ballgame as exemplified by this move.

The Raiders go on to win their biggest game of this season 57-51 and they’re into the championship series against BTL Nets.

Keith Acosta, Center, Kremandala Raiders

“Well, you know I had to come out and Play Big even though I was playing a little flat-footed in this game here but you know had to step it up and come out in the crunch time due to the nature of the game its really a big game so I had to step it up.”

Alex King, Sports Reporter

“Looking forward to the BTL Nets and you suffered two losses at their hands in the regular season what kind of adjustments can we see coming from the Raiders to overcome those two defeats?”

First of all BTL is a good team and offensive rebounding team and those are the two aspects we work out on to like stop them off the glass and contain them and hopefully have a good season.”
