Outstanding Results for Belizean Nurses Sitting Regional Exams

The results of the Regional Examination for Nursing Registration are in, and seventy-one percent of Belize’s nurses passed the regional exam. Sixty Belizean nurses sat the exams last October. According to Chief Nursing Officer, Nurse Lizette Bell, one of the top Caribbean performers also hailed from Belize. But as Nurse Bell explains, the above-average passes are the result of hard work.

“When you compare it to the region because this is a regional exam, we had a total of sixty four point three (percent) regionally that passed. So, as you can see, Belize has been improving and we’re doing well, much above the regional rate because we had a seventy-one percent. We have two top scorers for the Caribbean Examination – one is from Belize. Her name is Rocio Calderon and we must congratulate her for her exemplary work in the examination as one of the top scorers. In April of last year, we also did very well with eighty-two percent of our students passing the RENR Examination. So for April we were the second country with the second highest pass rates. It has been as a result of us instituting a new mechanism for the students before they sit the exam. So we have now recommended to the students to do a special regional examination prep course. In April was when we first introduced that program and we can see that it resulted in much improvement in our pass rates with our nurses.”
