M.O.E: Warden List “A Complete Disaster” With Absentee Wardens Paid, Others Not Assigned to Schools

The Ministry of Education says that it is in the process of cleaning up the School Security Warden Program. That is because a review of a list of approximately one hundred and fifty wardens on the payroll shows a number have been receiving a pay check, but are not assigned to any school. Others have been missing from school. Communications Officer, Rafael Sosa, who has been tasked with coordinating the School Security Warden Program, says that the program has to be revamped and proper monitoring protocols put in place.

“The ministry has taken a comprehensive review of the school security warden program. I can also tell you that what we have discovered is that there was a complete lack of monitoring and supervision of school security wardens countrywide. To be more specific, we have stumbled upon wardens who have been completely absent from their workstations. In one instance, I can share with you there is a school warden who had not reported to duty since March of 2020. And I can also tell you that that individual continues to be paid as we speak. And so, it is a complete disaster what we have unearthed and the ministry is committed the cleaning up the entire school security warden program. We need to have improved tracking of all these school security wardens; we need to know exactly where these wardens are posted across the country. we have stumbled upon is nothing short of a monumental miss and so it is certainly going to take us some time, but we are working feverishly to ensure that we have comprehensive list of school security wardens where at any time we will be able to know exactly where these wardens are posted across the country. So we expect that exercise to be completed in the coming weeks.”
