“It has been one year in office, and I have been able to get a proper assessment of the extent of the neglect, and the many challenges facing my Ministry and the Judiciary. Despite the austerity measures that the government had to implement in 2021, the government was able to find resources to repair two Magistrate court buildings in Dangriga and Independence which are currently on their way, which were woefully neglected and in serious disrepair with mole infested walls, ceiling giving in, and bathroom in unhygienic conditions, unfit for human use. The Government intends to build a new magistrate court, in Orange Walk District, and to repair the one in Belmopan and elsewhere.”

A.G. Young noted that the Family Court is relocating to the Charles Barlett Hyde Building in Belize City, where it will have adequate parking space and more room to carry out its daily affairs. Additionally, she announced that the Court of Appeal is being temporarily moved to a building on Regent Street for repairs to be carried out at the current location.
