U.N.I.B.A.M. Also Calls Out Minister Usher

The United Belize Advocacy Movement, Belize Trans Colors and Empower Yourself Movement, U.N.I.B.A.M., has also called on the Minister of Public Service to correct— what they say is— his misrepresentation of the Constitution. A statement from the organization claims the current effort to establish religious affairs within his Ministry threatens the progress government has made in H.I.V., sexual and reproductive health services, and the Sustainable Development Goals that promote the principle of leaving no one behind. They say Belizeans must never forget the attack on rights in 2012 by religious leaders that led to the removal of a health manual. They also reminded people of the 2013 organized marches that opposed the rights of women and the creation of a Morality Commission in 2016. U.N.I.BA.M. says the Minister has an opportunity to build bridges between communities that reflect equal protection under the law. They are asking for him to issue a statement of equality and human rights for all, to ensure the T.O.R. of the Liaison Officer is about Equality, and to ensure that he engages all concerned about the intention of religious affairs.
