Michel Chebat Out as Heath Minister; Kevin Bernard In

After weeks of controversy over the growing leadership vacuum at the ministry of health in terms of its directors and C.E.O’s– including last week’s decision by an incoming C.E.O not to take up her post as planned– there is a new Minister of Health. Effective immediately, Kevin Bernard takes over this crucial pandemic portfolio in the Prime Minister’s first Cabinet reshuffle since taking office in November of 2020. The decisive move was announced today around noon. While the PM declined to comment to News Five at this time, a release from his office says the changes are “comprehensive first-year review of national conditions, Cabinet portfolio performance and leadership effectiveness”. Sources in the Ministry of Health tell News Five the priorities going forward will be putting the right people in place and better collaboration with medical professionals. Bernard and the former Minister of Health Michel Chebat are reported to have cordial working relations and are scheduled to meet on Tuesday. While Kevin Bernard will now take the helm at health, Chebat is making a lateral move, becoming the Minister of Public Utilities and Logistics. Rodwell Ferguson continues to be Minister of Transport, but now adds Youth and Sports. Other changes include Francis Fonseca adding E-Governance to his responsibilities and Henry Charles Usher adding Religious Affairs to his already considerably full plate. The Office of the Prime Minister will now assume coordination for the National Security Council and all other ministerial and minister of state appointments remain the same.
