Will Officers Be Reassigned?

Officer Commanding Stann Creek Formation is Superintendent Gerald Jones and Senior Superintendent Daniel Arzu is the southern regional commander for the Belize Police Department. Clearly expressing his disappointment with their performance will these officers be removed from their posts and reassigned elsewhere?

“I can tell you off the bat I am not happy with the leadership. I am extremely dissatisfied and I believe that more can be done. We have invested a lot in Dangriga in terms of human resources and other resources. Other areas in the country do not have GI3 presence; Dangriga has GI3 presence. GI3 has a vehicle in Dangriga. Special Branch has a vehicle in Dangriga; C.I.B. got a vehicle in Dangriga. They got a brand new D-Maxx for Dangriga and they have another vehicle that we gave them. These are resources that the other formations don’t have and so I expect to get more out of Dangriga. But it seems like the more I’m putting into Dangriga, the less I am getting. And to whom much is given, much is deserved. So it cannot be that we are pouring resources somewhere and we are not getting value for money. At the end of the day, the public that we serve expect that when they see their money being spent on the resources for the police that is going to make them safer in the communities. So yes, to answer your question, I am not happy and certainly, we have to see what needs to be done moving forward. It is not easy; it is a difficult task, but as leaders, we have to understand that at times we must make some very tough decisions and this might be one of those times that I will have to make tough decisions.”
