Sugar Impasse Ends: Agreement Signed Between B.S.I. and Cane Farmers

Tonight, there is good news related to the sugar dispute coming out of the north. A.S.R./B.S.I. this evening agreed to strike a compromise with B.S.C.F.A.  Andrew Westby, Chairman of the Management Committee at B.S.C.F.A. told us over the phone that an interim agreement was signed just after three p.m. today.  The agreement, says Westby, will be in effect until the end of July 2022, or until the end of the sugar crop.

On the Phone: Andrew Westby, Chairman, Management Committee, B.S.C.F.A.

“What transpired today, we have the involvement of the four ministers. We have honorable Abelardo Mai, and we had the honorable Florencio Marin, “Munchi” Cervantes, and we had also, Ramiro Ramirez. And, the PM also, he was the one that brought us the letter. He was the one involved for this thing to move so fast, and then. Now, we B.S.C.F.A. are happy because we got what we wanted, an interim agreement extended to the end of crop, and that is what we are doing right now. We have B.S.I. who is signing right now in their conference room. And, we have our farmers moving their trucks from stop blocking the gate and B.S.I. sign the agreement, it will be brought to the NIR where we as the committee of management will be able to sign also.”
