Angry Cane Farmers Wanted Three-Year Agreement

A.S.R./B.S.I. was not the only ones feeling the pressure from B.S.C.F.A. farmers over the last three days. Prime Minister John Briceño received his fair share of criticism. He had been one of the main facilitators in bringing both parties to the table to come to an agreement. Yesterday, however, when it appeared that A.S.R./B.S.I. was not willing to strike a compromise, farmers were calling for PM Briceño to resign.

Sugar Cane Farmer (Translated)

“We must elect a minister that is not John Briceño. Secondly, we must now go to the Prime Minister’s house. We will go peacefully because, if not today, then the cane farmer will have nothing tomorrow or Monday. Thirdly, with the permission of our leaders and you all, we are sending a message to the Prime Minister – that we want three more years at BSI without any more delays. We want this in black and white by Monday and if you do not bring the paper to us then you can leave once again.”
