ComPol Williams Justifies Ticket to Fire-fighters

Chester Williams

ComPol Chester Williams has commented on the five-hundred-dollar ticket slapped on three fire service personnel in Santa Elena. On Thursday morning, the fire-fighters were changing shift, and while on the compound, police came up to the location and charged them for not wearing masks in public. In an interview with News Five, Ebony Wright says that they felt that they did nothing wrong and the approach by the police officer was uncalled for. ComPol Williams clarified the charge from the police perspective.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“Is the fire station compound public or private?”

“You tell me sir. I think, public I guess?”

Chester Williams

“Thank you very much. It is a public place and the law is clear. If you are in a public place, you must wear a mask. The same way how we deal with police officers in the police station or in the police station compound who are not wearing masks, we ticket them. So what makes the fire man or whoever different? I saw they went on social media and rant and raged and called the police officers all kinds of names for doing their job. That’s not how you address issues. If it were that they were aggrieved by what the officers have done, they could have contacted me and I certainly would have done something to address it for them. But the fact that they went on social media and insulted the police, call the police all kinds of names for doing their job, I am not going to intervene. The ticket is going to take its course.”
