B.S.C.F.A. Favors G.O.B. Proposal on Commercial Agreement Negotiations

The Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association, in a release today, says that it finds the Government of Belize’s proposal favorable, with one condition. Their condition is that the interim agreement contains a provision for an automatic extension of the expiry date, from April thirtieth, 2022 to August first 2022, to allow for circumstances that require such an extension. B.S.C.F.A. says the April thirtieth proposed deadline puts its members at a great disadvantage if they will not be able to deliver their crop after that date, in the event an agreement is not reached. But, in keeping the sugar crop start date of December twenty-seventh, B.S.C.F.A. is calling on its members to deliver clean and mature cane to the mill on Monday. B.S.C.F.A., in its release, assures its members that it will continue to pursue terms for the new commercial agreement which are beneficial to its members. A.S.R./B.S.I., on the other hand, has not indicated its position on G.O.B.’s proposal. We will continue to follow these developments.
