Sugar Industry Control Board Weighs In On Interim Agreement

Marcos Osorio

The Sugar Industry Control Board says it is confident that an agreement will be met between B.S.C.F.A. and A.S.R./B.S.I. by the end of April. Marcos Osorio, chairman of the Sugar Industry Control Board, spoke with our colleagues at C.T.V. 3 via zoom on Thursday.

Marcos Osorio, Chairman, S.I.C.B.

“This agreement was reached in good faith, thanks to the intervention of the Prime Minister of our country. We also believe that B.S.I./A.S.R. and B.S.C.F.A. will engage in negotiations in good faith for the good of our industry, for the good of our cane farmers. So, we see that there will be no need to reach end of April with no agreement.  As B.S.I./A.S.R. has said in all media, and we are all aware, that they have the best interest of all farmers foremost. So that view I believe that this agreement was reached, like I said thanks to the intervention of the Prime Minister, also that good faith will be the guiding rule during the period of negotiation of the extension of the contract. We want to believe, that B.S.I./A.S.R., like the B.S.C.F.A., will put their part and act in the best interest of the industry, and by extension our cane farmers that are the foundation of this sugar cane industry in Northern Belize.”

When we reached out to A.S.R./B.S.I. for comment, we were told they have no comments at this time. We continue to follow.
