Warping Philip Goldson Highway Section Needs to be Fixed

John Briceño

But before this event, PM Briceño was in Sarteneja Village in the north where Corozal/Sarteneja Road Project is underway. Back in 2019, G.O.B. signed off on a fifty million U.S.-dollar loan agreement with the Export-Import Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for the design and upgrade of twenty-seven miles of road, and the construction of two bridges to replace ferries at Pueblo Nuevo and Laguna Seca. And while on the topic of road works, PM Briceño was also asked about the stretch of the Philip Goldson Highway by miles three and a half. If you travel that area, you would experience the unevenness of the road. Millions of dollars have been spent over the years to upgrade that section, but it continues to sink. PM Briceño says that he is aware of the issue and investments will have to be made once again to fix that part of the highway.

Prime Minister John Briceño

“Unfortunately, successive governments have tried to fix that road. Unfortunately the previous government spent excessive amount of money to be able to fix it and it is sinking. And I think it seems that the only way we’d be able to fix that section – and I am no engineer, so please, and I am not pretending to be one – but it seems that we may have to consider piling into the ground to be able to have the road almost like a causeway; but a causeway is when you go all the way up, but just to the ground so that it will stop the sinking. It is going to be expensive, but at the end of the day, I think there is no other way because he minute you fix it, it goes down again. So millions of dollars have gone down the drain so maybe we may have to just bite the bullet and find a way how we can get it done.”
