PM Briceño: Omicron Inevitably Coming to Belize

The concern over the opening of the border continues to grow, especially with the highly transmissible omicron variant spreading across the globe. Without mincing words, Prime Minister John Briceño says, like the delta, omicron will inevitably make its way to Belize.

“I wish I could tell you that omicron will not come to Belize; it will come. Probably it is already here and we don’t know. When I was asked about delta, I said the same thing; it will come. Most of our tourists are from the United States and omicron has been found in probably about forty-seven or forty-eight states already so it is just a matter of time. It is now a matter of us being prepared. The first thing is that we need to get vaccinated and then secondly to maintain the protocols and to be as careful as we possibly can.”
