Doctor Manza is Fired

Marvin Manzanero

After over fifteen years of service as a public officer, Doctor Marvin Manzanero is out.  Word spread like wildfire over the weekend that Doctor Marvin Manzanero had been terminated and as of Friday, is no longer with the Ministry of Health and Wellness. After testing positive for COVID-19 last December, the return to his substantive post as Director of Health Services had been a tough one. Then earlier this year, the DHS post was abolished and two new director posts were created to do the job. Those posts have not been filled as yet and Doctor Francis Morey is still acting DHS. We reached out to Doctor Manzanero, but were unable to get a comment at this time. Doctor Melissa Diaz-Musa did share some comments on Doctor Manza, who the country has grown to associate as a face of the COVID-19 response in Belize.

“It’s a situation where I found out about it when I saw it on social media as well with regards to Doctor Manzanero. We’ve worked together even from before COVID and around COVID, we’ve spoken to each other on a regular basis with regards to the measures and our country’s response. I’ve try to really remain out of all that politics and what’s been happening there because we’ve been so busy with COVID and trying to respond to COVID. But even prior to that, Doctor Manzanero had always mentioned to me you can help as much as you can and coming to Belmopan, assisting at my desk as well; and I just wish him all the best.”
