428 Active Cases; Third Receding COVID-19 Wave
The country is seeing the end of a third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Belize. Active cases are down to four hundred and twenty-eight with a declining daily positivity rate. But, the facts are that almost six hundred people have lost their fight with this deadly disease. The delta variant is still present in the country. The omicron is spreading quickly across the world, so Belize is preparing for another wave. Today, News Five spoke with Deputy Regional Health Manager, Doctor Melissa Diaz-Musa who says that the Belize District currently has fewer than one hundred active cases.

“We are on the downward trend and we continue to be on the downward trend, which is something very good. We are utilizing this time to rejuvenate to look at what we need to plan ahead and brace ourselves for another wave in 2022. So it is important that yes we are happy to see the numbers coming down. We know as of Friday of last week, we had for the country an active case of five hundred and nine persons, so that has come down significantly. For the Belize District, it is down to less than a hundred cases at this time. We continue to do enhanced surveillance and we continue to have our flu centers open and our swabbing sites open so I want to encourage the general public to take advantage of all these things.”
