Investigation Underway into Malfeasance Allegation Against NEAC
The principals of Waterloo Investment Holdings have written to the Government of Belize making serious allegations of corruption at the National Environmental Appraisal Committee. Today, C.E.O. in the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Doctor Kenrick Williams, under whose ministry the NEAC falls, responded to the allegations, saying that an investigation will be launched, but there would need to be evidence to substantiate the allegations.
Dr. Kenrick Williams, C.E.O., Ministry of Sustainable Development
“Indeed, we received some allegations of malfeasance against some of the members of NEAC. That is an ongoing investigation. We have to look into the veracity of this claim, the truth of those claims because of course they have implications on this public regulatory process. We have to look into the claims, we have to investigate, see if there is any truth to it and then take action based on that. As I indicated they have some implications for the process so we want to ensure that this public process, the integrity of the process is maintained.”
