Will Only PUP Supporter Get Christmas “Cheer?”

Orlando Habet

As we inch closer to Christmas, some area representatives have already mobilized their Christmas assistance machineries within their communities. Today, we asked Area Representative for Cayo North East about how he plans to bring a “Blu Christmas” to his constituents.

Orlando Habet, Area Representative, Cayo North East

“For my constituency, I think that we have to say that we are lucky for being in government because we can enjoy a little bit of what the former Administration enjoyed for thirteen years, when they use to give us a pittance. At least, our administration is being equitable in the distribution of the resources. But, for Cayo North East we are giving out some hampers to the families. I have seven villages and a piece of San Ignacio, so we are trying to do as much as possible. So, we are giving them a basket of goods, provisions and I don’t believe it might be enough to give a hundred percent of all the residents or households, but we will do as much as possible. We are also providing the children with a goodies bag that will have little sweets, the chocolate, the apples, the biscuits and chips and what not, hopefully with a Santa Claus to go along with to.”

“But of course, you have like any other politician, your most ardent supporter who you say, she have to get, her family have to get today.”

Orlando Habet

“I believe to some extent yes, we won’t deny that. We have people who have supported us. We know that during those thirteen years also we have a lot of people who supported us, but because they were open they never qualified even for the pantry. What I can tell you though, is that through our assistance which we have been getting for the past months, we try to assist people who are the neediest. You can go into my village, you can ask, and you will find out that people from both sides are giving.”
