Michael Lindo Perishes in RTA on Southern Highway

There has been a visible increase in the number of fatal road traffic accidents being reported in recent weeks, as motorists continue to lose their lives in deadly collisions along the country’s highways.  Over the weekend, Michael Lindo died when his Toyota Hilux rear-ended a commuter bus on the Southern Highway.  The pickup truck he was driving was extensively damaged and he was trapped inside.  Communications Director Fitzroy Yearwood provides additional details.

“Received information of an RTA at mile one on the Southern Highway. When police arrived at the scene sometime around 3:10 p.m., the driver of a Toyota Hilux was trapped behind the steering wheel. His name was learned to be Michael Lindo. Police investigation revealed that a bus, a Bluebird bus was traveling in front of him and upon the bus approaching the area where we have those, they call it grated area, but I call it still the speed bump because it’s designed to slow down traffic. The Hilux slammed into the back of the bus and it was extensively damaged.  Because the driver was trapped, it took a while to get him out and by that time he was motionless. He was transported to the Southern Regional [Hospital] where he was pronounced dead. We know that the driver of the bus was served with an NIP and investigators are still trying to put together the pieces. It was rather early in the evening when this accident occurred.”

“Were any of the passengers inside the bus also injured?”

“Well, the condition of the driver of the pickup was the only thing reported to me. They are telling me that the back bumper of the bus was damaged and the backdoor. So from the looks of things, it would seem that the pickup that slammed into the bus received most of the damages.”
