Welcome for Miss Earth 2021, PG’s Destiny Wagner

Over the weekend, a series of motorcades took place from Belize City to Orange Walk and down south in Punta Gorda, the hometown of Destiny Wagner and Miss Earth 2021 titleholder. Wagner made history for the country as the first Belizean to win an international pageant title.  On Friday evening, she touched down at the P.G.I.A. as her first time back to the Jewel since winning the international pageant, which was held virtually a few weeks ago.  Blue Economy Minister Andre Perez and C.E.O. Kennedy Carillo welcomed her home and Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner presented her with the keys to the city during a welcome ceremony that was held inside the VIP room at the airport. Here are highlights of her welcome home events.

“It is indeed an honor for us to have the privilege of having such an ambassador for our environment, for what the beauty of our environment represents not only to Belize but internationally. And for the Ministry of Blue Economy and fro the Ministry of Tourism, we truly acknowledge your presence here with us and thank you for granting us this opportunity to welcome you home.”

“With Destiny Wagner’s representation, Belize has now joined the ranks of twenty countries such as Puerto Rico, Brazil, Untied States, Canada, Denmark, Philippines and Ecuador in conquering an esteemed and pertinent crown, Miss Earth.”

“It certainly was not my intention to become a legend or make history at all. I just knew that Belize is a very tough crowd to please and I did not want to get embarrassed on Facebook or bullied. But aside from that, everyone here has been thanking me, but I have to thank every single one of you and Belize in general because without Belize I would not be here today. I am thankful for each and every one of you to have your support and to celebrate a win of this magnitude with you all. The win didn’t feel right until I came to Belize and got off that airplane to be back on my native soil; that is when all the emotions started to come in. But I will say before I leave here today that we can all take a vow – not only in our heads, but in our hearts – that we will advocate and protect our natural resources here in Belize, but as well as our youth and our international ambassadors.”

“We are so glad, from the Belize City. My councilors, the entire residents of the city want to confer upon you the greatest honor and that is this lovely key to the city.”
