Liquor Sale Ban Lifted; Please Exercise Public Health Measures

On Tuesday, cabinet announced that it is lifting the six o’clock cut off time for liquor sales with the hopes that residents would be responsible enough and not become reckless and engage in any social gathering. It comes on the heels of an ease on curfew beginning at ten p.m. from Sunday to Thursday and then at eleven p.m. on Friday and Saturday. But it also comes after some bars in Placencia were seen on social media flouting public safety measures. Deputy Director of Health Services, Doctor Francis Morey says Belizeans must take their own health and safety seriously and that enforcement should continue—especially for bars posing as restaurants to try and skirt the regulations.

Dr. Francis Morey, Deputy Director of Health Services

“We have to be cognizant of what wins and what is essential is vaccination, exercising due care with the public health measures that need to be implemented and reinforced by every single person. The Ministry of Health cannot be policing a person. Most likely that is the part of what the police comes and the ComPol has been quite forthcoming when he addresses the media with what will be done. That is the enforcement that will continue. So these entities and bars and restaurants that masquerades as bars, they need to be held accountable and every person that is out there putting himself at risk and going back and putting his family at risk.”
