U.D.P. Takes On Vega’s Medical Bill

The Leader of the Opposition also called on Prime Minister Briceño to give an open explanation for public monies reportedly spent on a medical bill for Ingrid Vega, the wife of deceased Corozal Bay Area Representative David “Dido” Vega.  Reports are that the bill dates back to December twenty-fourth, 2020 at Belize Healthcare Partners where Vega was being treated after falling severely ill with COVID-19. When Minister Chebat was asked about the payment recently in a public interview, he said the decision was taken by the Ministry of Finance. Well, Faber is calling on the Minister of Finance, Prime Minister Briceño, to shed some light.

“We hear now of a situation where the government have agreed to pay for the medical bills of a former elected representative. Now, on the surface of things there might be a, and that’s the thing I am not sure. I want to believe it is the way you put it, it may be for the two of them. Because, Dido Vega can’t pay no bills now, God Bless him. So, it may well be that it is the hospital bill that was left haunting the wife, who was also a client  of the hospital and suffered from COVID 19, spent quite a number of days in the hospital as well. We don’t have any quarrel with the Vega family and we know that time was very much a time of turmoil. But the Prime Minister owes this nation an explanation, if you are going to contract one hundred and forty six thousand of the tax payer’s dollars, to pay a bill like this, fourteen thousand dollars a month.   If it is you are giving some kind of ex-gratia payment, because this man would have at the time, if he had died in office, be awarded some kind of pension then tell us. But, it is a slap in face of the Belizean population when it is you simply go under the radar.”
