Additional Changes Coming for Tourism Destinations

As a part of the same project, Carballo also spoke about other changes coming on stream.

Josue Carballo, Director of Industry Development, BTB

Josue Carballo

“We’re finalizing the signage in the Sittee River Road/Hopkins hotel zone area, which we also did the paving together with the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing. We’re opening – resurfacing the ATM cave road. We’re working on the Placencia Polyclinic which will be a big project that will be done within the next year. And that will be big. This is in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, but BTB, through funds from Harvest Caye, we’re using a lot of those funds and some funds from BTB itself to get this project going. And this will be a model for future clinics that will be done. It will be right around the airplane – as you take that curve the airstrip going towards Placencia. It’s going to be (on) your first curve on your left (hand side). The land is still for the Placencia Village Council but we’re working with them as well to get access to it. It’s all in development, noh – Placencia being so high-end – we don’t even have a decent clinic somewhere where people can go for an emergency. It will even have a docking area close by so people from the resorts (who) have an emergency can access it and it has easy road access, so it’s another big project. It is under the Plan Belize initiative.”
