DPP Issues Statement on Former Security Guard Charged for Drug Offenses

The Director of Prosecutions Cheryl-Lynn Vidal has issued a statement following the arrest of her former security guard, Corporal Delwin Casimiro, for drug trafficking offenses. He and three other officers were charged in connection with the landing of a drug plane earlier this month. She says she felt compelled to respond to what she termed “scurrilous and utterly untrue” statements being made on social media that attempt to link her to Casmiro’s actions. Vidal says that there was nothing in her interactions with Casimiro, which date back to 2012, that would have “served as a warning sign that he could have been engaged in any criminal activity.”  She also clarified that she has been separated from Assistant Commissioner of Police Marco Vidal for over a year. Nevertheless, she says the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions will not participate in the investigation or prosecution of this matter and she is confident the Commissioner of Police will “spare no effort to bring all offenders to justice.” She closes by saying she hopes all of the officers involved understand that they had betrayed the trust placed in them, unfairly cast shadows on the careers of others, and brought embarrassment to their colleagues, the department, and the country.
