Happy 75th Anniversary SJCU
St. John’s Credit Union is celebrating its seventy-fifth anniversary this week, but many may not know of the humble beginnings of this financial institution. Over the years, SJCU has grown to include branches in Belmopan and Dangriga. Most recently, it opened a north side branch here in Belize City. News Five spoke with Daisy Dawson, General Manager of St. John’s Credit Union.

“It’s definitely a milestone for St. John’s Credit Union, seventy-five years, that’s a lot. And when we look back at where we started, it was ten parishioners in 1946, of St. John’s Cathedral who decided to put their resources together to provide services to the parishioners. So you had to be a member of the cathedral to become a part of the credit union, but in 1978 the union was opened to ensure that we would be able to allow other persons to become members of the credit union and so it was renamed St. John’s Credit Union Ltd. So certainly, seventy-five is a lot of years and when we look back to where we were and where we are today and what we have been able to achieve, it’s certainly something to be proud about and we must applaud and give thanks to our dedicated and loyal members who have been with us throughout the years and also to take the opportunity to encourage other people to become a part of SJCU and its continued growth.”
