PM Says Arrest of High Ranking People Will Help Win Back Public Trust

And in relation to Friday’s bust and today’s arraignment, the Prime Minister said this morning that this historic bust will help to win back the trust of the public, and underscore that his administration will root out crime, even when high level officials may be implicated.

“When we come back to the issue of crime, never in the history of Belize have a government made such a bust that happened over the weekend. Where high ranking people seem to be implicated, and that the commissioner and the minister of police have said, we are going to go after them, we are going to bring in every help we can get to be able to arrest these people. Today several of them are going to be charged. Something that has not happened before. So now, trust? You can’t win trust over night. We have to be able to win back that trust that was destroyed by the previous governments.”
