Will Younger People Be Given Boosters?
The Ministry of Health and Wellness is currently recommending booster shots for high risks patients. But, will the less vulnerable younger population also be asked to take boosters? News Five’s Paul Lopez asked Dr. Cuellar about this.
Dr. Fernando Cuellar, Internist, BMA
“We are not sure yet Paul, honestly we are not sure yet. We had just basically come out of the certainty of the age group between twelve and eighteen. And, right now we are looking at the five to twelve. That five to twelve we are not quite sure of what will be recommended. And, we are still not completely over figuring out if the younger people, the twelve-year-old will need a booster shot. The only studies and these are science based studies. And, as the data comes out, we will be able to recommend to people.”
Paul Lopez
“What concerns, if any, are your patients coming with to you about booster shots?”
Dr. Fernando Cuellar
“The concerns are the same, if they will have any adverse reactions to it, if they have any allegoric reaction, if it will mess up their immune system. But, once we understand and we try to be as simplistic as possible, as truthful as possible, I think there are general acceptance of the booster shots.”
