“Lait Up Belize” to Connect Remote Villages Over Next 3 Years
The LAIT UP BELIZE Project, a partnership between the government and the European Union, will begin bringing electricity to rural communities in Belize still lacking this crucial service. The project was officially launched on Thursday evening in Belize City. Those villages scheduled to receive power will be connected to hybrid solar/diesel powered electricity mini-grids by Belize Electricity Limited over the course of the next three years. The LAIT UP BELIZE project will also see the introduction of an electric mobility pilot program and technical support. All this is being funded by the EU’s eleventh EDF Financing Agreement with Belize.
