Resident of Mud Street Killed Monday Night

There was a murder in Belize City on Monday night.  Shawn Palacio Sr. was gunned down while walking on Mud Street, just before six p.m. Police say reports are a man walked up to him and fired a single shot in Palacio’s direction, causing his fatal injury.  There are more questions than answers, however, as to the motive.  News Five’s Paul Lopez reports.

“The last time I see him was yesterday afternoon when he came to my house. He came for some stuff and I gave him some stuff, and that was the last time I see him. So, this really touches my heart that I will not see him again.”

Described as a selfless individual who would go above and beyond to serve others, Palacio was a construction worker by trade.

“The moment I heard it, I feel a sharp pain in my heart. I hear it from his friend and I was so angry because I said I don’t know what is going on in this country. Why are we living like this, why are we killing up each other? Why are we hurting each other?”

“Anyone ask him for anything they get it mein. He is a Rastaman, a nice Rastaman, that I even ask him, why you nuh guh be a minister, cause whenever somebody need something, you always have it fih give deh? Deh could need pipe. Deh could need cement. Deh could need steel. Deh could need board, deh could need whatever. He is right there for them.”

His sister says she often sees stories of murder on the news, but she had never imagined that one day her family would have to endure the experience.  Sadly, Palacio leaves behind three children.

“I the hold on the memory that he come here and laugh with the kids them. You know, the kids ask him for anything, once he have it he give them. So I will cherish and hold on to the nice memory we had together. We laugh and we talk. And, we like to watch movies together, and he would tell me, ‘Sista, dah weh this movie bout?’ Then he would tell me, ‘sista ah nuh wah sih this.’ Sometime we go back and forth the laugh about the movie. These things I am going to keep in my heart. These are the fun times I had with my brother. I miss him so much.”
