Crime Control Council Looks at $1M Budget Approved So Far
The National Crime Control Council met this morning in Belize City to discuss exactly what its name suggests – crime. Today reporters spoke with the Minister on what that meeting focused on.
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
“The Government has the political will now to address the root causes of crime. On October fifth we presented a Cabinet paper that is a multi-sectoral approach to fighting crime and fighting poverty, particularly in Belize City. That was approved on October fifth and where we are today is actually setting out the road map of how we’re going to roll this out because that budget was in fact approved. A million dollars was in the supplemental budget; that does not cover the entire year, though, that’s only a small portion because the overall budget for this plan is nine point nine million dollars. So this is only a very small fraction.”
