Food, fuel and other necessities cost more in September

Looking at the consumer price index for the month of September, SIB’s data reflects an increase in the cost of fuel, food, and LPG and personal care products, when compared to September of 2020. A notable increase of eleven percent was recorded in the transport category. The price of food and non alcoholic beverages saw an increase of five percent. The housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels category saw an increase of two percent. The average cost of a hundred cylinder of LPG rose by thirty one dollars. Among the country’s municipalities, Orange Walk Town experienced the highest rate of increase in prices for September. Punta Gorda on the other hand saw the lowest increase in prices. The prices on goods increased by two point six percent, when compared to the first nine months of 2020.
