Greenwood Calls Advocating for Both Sides “Double Insurance”

Tom Greenwood, the former President of FECTAB, is now the Public Relations Consultants for the Feinstein Group, the developer for Port Coral. And it is with Port Coral that FECTAB has signed a twenty five years agreement.  When Greenwood spoke at this morning’s press conference, portions of his presentation did in fact sound like a Public Relations pitch. This afternoon we got in touch with Greenwood by phone to ask about his apparent conflict of interest. First, here’s a clip from the press conference where Greenwood claims that the developers have offered conservationists a seat at the table.

When those two causeways are finished, from Stake Bank’s Port Coral, over to North Drown Caye, and from there to the Coast, it will be a game changer. It will be beautiful. And, we agree with the NGO, we must do this carefully, very carefully. We want to help. We have made an offer to have a facility on North Drown Caye to be used by the NGOs to assist in preservations and even in recovery, if there is to be an accident. So, this is the way it is. This is the science of the thing. Nobody would go into an operation like this knowing the science, or disregarding the science. You do the science first. I won’t lie to you, FECTAB is a completely separate organization, aimed at organizing tour guides and tour operators to ensure that they get a space on that place. So, I am doing some work for them, being on their good side that is double insurance. I am making sure my people are represented.”

“You are also advocating for the project.”

Tom Greenwood

“I am advocating for the project, because I know the Feinstein. They are not about to get anything done, finding two hundred million dollars, only to find out a piece of paper ah stop deh. That gentleman has been successful. His whole family has been successful. I see an open door for several hundred guides and tour operators, plus your handicraft people and so on. So, I thought and said no, I don’t see nothing wrong with doing PR for them, because if they start messing around and doing the wrong thing, they will hear from me. I am bought by no one.”

Paul Lopez

“How do you serve the concerns of your membership and the purpose of the Feinstein group?”

Tom Greenwood

“Well they have faith in me, they believe I am doing the right thing to ensure they get spot in the front, if you know what I mean.”
