U.D.P. Condemns “Destruction” of DHS Office
Today, the United Democratic Party issued a release saying this is the worst time to play politics with the health care system and accuses the Briceño administration of making moves to destroy the DHS Office. The U.D.P. says that “Politics above professionalism is the clear rational and purpose behind the announced intention of the Briceño administration to abolish the post of Director of Health Services (DHS) and replace it with two lesser posts neither of which will have the authority or command the respect that the office once had.” The Opposition condemns the decision saying that Public Service Minister Henry Charles Usher could not offer a logical or coherent explanation for the move. The release goes on to ask several questions, but makes clear that the vital role of the office of the DHS requires that it always be shielded from politics because the holder of the technical post is to guide the government and health system. The release ends by saying, “To tamper with such an important office particularly at this time, when the health of the nation is under the most severe threat ever, is unthinkable, dangerous and deadly.”
