“It’s important that our public officers also get vaccinated because the work of government continues. We can’t continue to have persons missing work because of this virus, so it is important that they get vaccinated. But at the same time we have to realise that the vaccine is like a cheat sheet for your immune system, meaning that it will tell your immune system what type of virus it is and the way it can respond. Having said that, you still have to have in place your proper safety measures – wearing of the mask, social distancing, making sure you wash your hands regularly – these practices still have to be done. And perhaps we’ve seen in certain areas that they have gotten too lax with these wearing of the masks and so on, so you see spikes in certain officers, certain clusters of the community. The last report coming out, it is not a comprehensive report on public officers but it is divided in terms of customs officers, immigration and so on. And in terms of customs and immigration, the numbers are very high so that’s encouraging because these are frontline individuals. We still have work to do with the B.D.F. and the police and so on – these different frontline officers. But we are seeing an increase, we are seeing an uptake and really the goal is to get the entire country to a level, to a threshold that we can start to see a more opening in the economy.”
