Where Are We with the Implementation of UNCAC?

Speaking of anti-corruption reform, the minister was asked for an update in terms of final implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption. Minister Usher says that the process is complex, but the Briceño administration is making sure that all the necessary requirements are in place for its effective operation.

Henry Charles Usher, Minister of Public Service, Constitutional & Political Reform

“There has to be some explanation because you don’t just implement UNCAC. It’s not something that you can just enact into local law. There are certain legislations that you have to put in place that fall under the convention and that’s what we are looking at. We have introduced the public disclosures bill that’s a part of UNCAC; we’ve introduced unexplained wealth orders that’s also a part of UNCAC; we’ve looked at asset recovery legislation that’s also a part of UNCAC. So it is a comprehensive list of different laws/legislation that you put in place and that way, we will be able to fulfil our obligations under the convention.”
