Opposition Sends Approval After Consultation on Justices

The Leader of the Opposition, Patrick Faber has reportedly given his approval for the process to proceed for the appointment of four persons as Judges of the Supreme Court.  Today, Cabinet Secretary, Stuart Leslie confirmed that Faber has responded in support of the appointments. As we reported on Thursday, there was communication between Faber and the Prime Minister, via telephone and also with Leslie. Initially, there was concern raised by the UDP’s shadow cabinet that all four judges are foreign and their appointments are for only one year. The four persons who will now be appointed Supreme Court Justices are: Ricardo Sandcroft, Susan Lamb, Patricia Farnese and Genevieve Chabot. Prime Minister John Briceno has indicated that the appointments would be for one year only to assist with eliminating the backlog of cases before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court had become acutely short of Judges last year after at least two Judges retired and one left to serve in another country.
