Leader of the Opposition Gives Update on Justices for Supreme Court

The Leader of the Opposition, Patrick Faber has given an update on the consultations concerning the Justices of Supreme Court. Faber says he received the letter from the Cabinet Secretary on the matter on October fourth and on the fifth he met with his shadow cabinet to discuss the proposed appointments. The concern raised was that all four judges are foreign and the appointments are for one year only. He says on that same day he contacted the Cabinet Secretary to request further consultations with the Prime Minister. The Opposition Leader notes he received a response a week later on October 12 by way of two telephone calls with the Prime Minister. The LOO says further discussions were held with the shadow cabinet today, which quotes “reference the proposed appointments given by way of the letter to the Prime Minister.” He did not speak to whether or not this Opposition will endorse the appointments. The proposed Supreme Court Justices are Ricardo Sandcroft, Susan Lamb, Patricia Farnese and Genevieve Chabot. On Monday, the Prime Minister John Briceno appeared on Open Your Eyes and said the appointments would be for one year only and would be to assist with clearly the backlog of cases.
