Charges to be Brought Following Wild Vehicular Pursuit on Sunday

Seventeen-year-old Kiron Williams and twenty-two-year-old Kenyon Cherrington are recovering from injuries they received during an exchange of gunfire with Belize City police on Sunday. The shooting occurred during a high-speed pursuit of a vehicle that three armed men were traveling in on Faber’s Road Extension, following an attack on residents who were socializing inside a property. Williams remains under police guard, as it is believed that he rented a Dodge minivan used in the commission of the crime. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams also says that another individual will also be charged for aggravated assault.

“I know that the person of concern who is a fellow Williams, but no relative of mine, is still in the hospital under police guard. We do still have two persons in custody in respect of that matter and investigators are working tirelessly to put the pieces together. But again, we are seeing where the two persons that were shot on Faber’s Road that led to the pursuit are not cooperating with police as much as they should and so that is putting some strain on the investigation. Nonetheless, we are certain that we will be able to bring charges against the fellow Williams who was the one who rented the van or the vehicle, as well as another person who was identified by the police in the vehicle at which time he was armed with what the officer said was a firearm and he pointed towards the police and fired shots. So at least in respect of those two persons for aggravated assault upon them hopefully very soon.”
