BPD Receives Two New Vehicles for Division One

A pair of spanking new pickup trucks was handed over to the Belize Police Department this morning to be used for mobile patrols in Belize City.  The vehicles were purchased by the Ministry of Home Affairs, amid the wear and tear that the existing is fleet is experiencing.  According to Senior Superintendent Gualberto Garcia, the vehicles will be assigned to Division One which he commands.

“I would like to say a special thank you to our Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, the honorable Kareem Musa, and the prime minister, who is also the Minister of Finance for, despite the fact that we are in tough economic times that with their effort they were able to find the money to purchase these brand new vehicles for us.  Each vehicle comes at a cost, with the lights and everything, at sixty-five thousand [dollars] each and so you would know that getting a hundred and thirty thousand dollars in this time is not easy, but they were able to do so. And it goes back to the fact that they do recognize the need that we have as a department to be able to respond to the public concerns. Crime, as you know, is an issue. As a part of the police response, we need to have proper mobility to be able to keep up with the criminals.”

“I am sure that these two vehicles have been needed for quite some time. One vehicle will be used for Precinct One and one vehicle will be used for Precinct Two, both of which are under my command. Crime is a problem countrywide and we have seen the increase in incidents throughout the entire country, Belize City, south side, taking our own hits as we can see. But the arrival of these vehicles will surely put a dent on crime as we will have better mobility, we’ll have more presence in our area of responsibility.”
