Opposition Has Yet to Respond to Supreme Court Justice Recommendations

The Office of the Prime Minister is still awaiting a response from the Leader of the Opposition, Patrick Faber, on four proposed Justices of the Supreme Court.  The Prime Minister’s office had written to the Leader of the Opposition on September twenty-ninth, informing of its intention to appoint, upon consultation with the Opposition, Ricardo Sandcroft and Susan Lamb to the criminal division of the Court, and Patricia Farnese and Genevieve Chabot to the civil division. All appointments are with effect from September twentieth, 2020, except for that of Miss Chabot, which takes effect on January seventeenth, 2021. By law, the Prime Minister must consult with the Leader of the Opposition on such appointments. However, Cabinet Secretary Stuart Leslie told News Five today that while the Office of the Prime Minister is in contact with the Leader of the Opposition they are waiting for a response from him.  Our efforts to reach Chairman of the U.D.P., Michael Peyrefitte and Patrick Faber for comment have been unsuccessful.  Sandcroft has served as a Judge at the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court in St. Lucia; Lamb has served in senior positions for the Commission for International Criminal Justice and Accountability, among others; Farnese is an associate professor of law at the University of Saskatchewan in Alberta, Canada; and Chabot has served as the Federal Judicial Advisory Committee for Yukon, Canada.
