K.H.M.H. Workers Union Prez Test Positive for COVID-19
There are thirty-two staff members currently out of commission at the K.H.M.H. having been exposed to or contracted the COVID-19 virus. Among those persons is the president of the K.H.M.H. Workers Union, Lidia Alpuche-Blake who tested positive and since last week, has been at home in isolation. News Five understands that the anaesthetist nurse is asymptomatic, but is her absence affecting the work at the national referral hospital?
Dr. Andre Sosa, Chair, Board of Governors, K.H.M.H.
“There are several nurse anaesthetists working at the K.H.M.H. so we do have staff to cover. Having said that though, it is true just like the rest of the country and indeed the city, we have had quite a number of staff come down with COVID-19 and others who have been exposed and who are out for observation; basically, they are in quarantine. Last week we had a total of thirty-two persons out including persons diagnosed with COVID-19 and others who are in isolation having been exposed. It reflects the reality that we have community spread. I think that very few of those instances of people becoming sick occurred within the hospital itself, but rather outside within the community.”
