Cab Sec Seeks Opposition Views on Supreme Court Justice Appointments
The Office of the Prime Minister has written to the Leader of the Opposition, Patrick Faber, seeking his views on the recommendations for Supreme Court Justices. These are being made to the Governor General by the Judicial and Legal Services Commission. Among the names being forwarded for appointment are Ricardo Sandcroft and Susan Lamb for the Criminal Division and Patricia Farnese and Genevieve Chabot for the Civil. Although the start date for three of the appointees would have been September twentieth, the letter from the Cabinet Secretary Stuart Leslie is dated September twenty-ninth. The letter states that before agreeing to the appointments, the Prime Minister is following Section Ninety-Seven (Two) of the Constitution, Chapter Four of the Laws of Belize, revised in 2011 which stipulates the PM concurs after consultation with the Leader of the Opposition.
