Former NBA Player Milton Palacio Charged in Healthcare Fraud
Reports have surfaced on U.S. media outlets, including the Portland Tribune, that Belizean basketball star; Milton Palacio is among eighteen NBA veterans whose names have been called in an alleged four-million-dollar scheme to defraud the NBA health plan. Palacio was recently named assistant coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, but tonight, he along with Glen “Big Baby” Davis, Anthony Allen, Shannon Brown and Darius Miles – just to name a few – is facing the charge of conspiracy to commit healthcare and wire fraud. According to Oregon Live.com, the forty-three-year-old former NBA point guard has since been placed on administrative leave with no timetable for return to the bench. Sixteen of the eighteen men were taken into custody and appeared in the Manhattan Federal Court today. Officials alleged that in total, the defendants submitted three point nine million dollars in fake claims, and two point five million was paid out.
