Taxi Operator Gunned Down in Front of His Wife: She Pleas for Information

Tonight, the wife of well-known taxi operator, Leo Skeen is speaking out about the senseless killing of her husband right in front of her as he was fixing her car inside their yard in the Japan area of Ladyville.  It is still unknown at this time what triggered the act of violence on Tuesday, but an unsuspecting Skeen was sitting near the car when the gunman came up to the fence on Myrtle Wade Crescent, extended his hand over the bars and fired the deadly shots. News Five’s Duane Moody files this report.

Unbelievable, unthinkable–why him? These are the thoughts running through the minds of many as the news broke that popular P.G.I.A. taxi driver and former Ladyville Chairman, sixty-nine-year-old Leo Skeen was shot and killed at his home late Tuesday afternoon. Skeen was working on a car when a gunman came to the fence and shot him multiple times in the back. Skeen was killed in front of his wife Irma, who says she only saw the sparks as the gun was firing.

“Me and my husband was out here. He was fixing my car, the brakes and I was sitting over there. I heard some shots and I thought it was something from the car, but when I saw my husband lean back way. And when I realise and I saw two fired shots, I couldn’t believe. When I saw my husband fall on the ground, then I realised he got shot and I saw the person running.”

As Irma screamed for help, neighbour rushed out. One man pursued the shooter, but he escaped in a waiting car on Marage Road. The violent crime was captured on surveillance footage from the residence and this has since been handed over to the police.

“An entire community is saddened by what took place yesterday in Myrtle Wade Crescent where Mister Leo Skeen lost his life while he was in his yard repairing his vehicle. We know that around four p.m., he was seated on a metal chair when someone exited a vehicle and opened fire on his through the grill bars of his fence. It was not a home invasion, this person did not even enter the yard. He fired his shots. Police arrived on the scene shortly after, they ferried Mister Skeen to the K.H.M.H. where he was pronounced dead. I can tell you that our investigators have detained someone of interest. We believe that this person could shed some light on this investigation and hopefully we will be able to level charges.”

Who wanted the elderly man dead and why? These are questions that have no answers at this time, but police investigations are underway. Irma Skeen says that her husband did not deserve to die like this and she is asking anybody who may know any information to share it with the police.

“My husband does not deserve this because he is a God-fearing man. He loved his children, he loved his home. Right now, you noh even safe in your own yard. My husband didn’t do anybody wrong. He was a good person. He was right here sitting down. If yo look the two bullet hole that hit him; why? People out there, please, if unu see anything, hear anything, help! Speak up! Too much of these killings are happening. My husband doesn’t deserve this. Anybody who saw or heard something, I want to know why and who if somebody set him up because this is not fair. I sympathise with the people that their loved one have been shot, especially the young man. I sympathise with his mom. Now I know how it feels because it hit home. My husband did not do anybody wrong. He had been there for many and many can account for that.”
