The Belize Police Department today received a small token of appreciation from Taiwanese Ambassador David Chien, who donated fifty food hampers to the men and women of law enforcement.  The gift-giving is part of Taiwan’s National Day celebration which comes up on October tenth.  On hand to receive the donation was Sr. Superintendent Sinquest Martinez, Commander of Division Two.  News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

The Taiwanese embassy has partnered with the Belize Police Department for a small donation of food hampers to be distributed on the north side of Belize City. It’s a gesture that goes a long way for members of the department who will be receiving basic food items and pastries in their respective neighborhoods.

“We all call Belize City home.  We know that the police of Belize City have been working very hard recently. In order to extend our appreciation and pay tribute to the police, we came here to present the food bags with typical Taiwanese pastries. Four days later, October tenth, will be the National Day.  This year marks the one hundred and tenth national day of the Republic of China (Taiwan). We present the food bags, not only for extending our appreciation and gratitude. But also sharing the joy and happiness of our National Day with all of you, I hope you will like it. As a close friend and trustworthy ally of Belize, the Embassy of Taiwan looks forward to continue working with all of you to further advance the prosperity and benefit of the people of Belize.”
