More Astrazenca Vaccines From Mexico

And following the state visit to Mexico, more COVID-19 vaccines arrived from the Mexican government for Belizeans. This latest shipment of one hundred thousand is added to a previous shipment in June of the same amount. A representative of the Mexican government was in Belize for the handing over this weekend. Minister Michel Chebat says the gift is very welcome indeed.

Iker Amilcar Jimenez Martinez, Dir. Gen. Global Investment

“Mexico and Belice are characterized by types of good neighborhood ship. That is why, on behalf of the Government of Mexico, I am honored to formally hand over one hundred thousand AstraZeneca vaccines to the Government of Belice and the Belizean people. President Andres Lopez Obrador has highlighted the interest of Mexico to promote regional development with a strong social focus, whereby the countries of our continent support each other in achieving stability and combating equality and discrimination. Particularly, in the face of the pandemic and its effects. Moreover, Chancellor Marcelo Ebrard has tried the voice of the region before the United Nations since the beginning of this health crisis to highlight the need to guarantee that our countries have equal access to vaccines.  This is to ensure that life notwithstanding socio-economic status is preserved.”

Minister of Health and Wellness, Michel Chebat

“It s the second donation of a hundred thousand AstraZeneca vaccines. Back in June, as you recall, we have gotten a hundred thousand, and that really open a door for us so that we could have open up to all Belizeans to get vaccinated. Prior to that, you know we had to reserve what we had for the more vulnerable persons in our society, but with that first donation, we then open it up to everyone, and this second donation will help us for second doses, and we’re gonna have some over for those who wish to get a first dose. So, this is very timely and we are very grateful to the Mexican government and people for this donation.”
