E.P. Yorke to Stay on Remote Learning Until December

With uncertainty for weeks over whether schools would be able to resume any in-person classes on Monday as previously announced, and the Ministry of Education waiting until Thursday to invite schools to apply for approval for hybrid classes, today one school made their own definitive decision. Edward P. Yorke sent a letter to families this evening announcing that they would remain online until the completion of this term. In other words, they will not be having students back on campus until December. The school says their decision was made based on many different factors. These include the increasing number of students’ families who have been testing positive for COVID 19, the fact only 54 percent of their students have gotten vaccinated, and Belize City as COVID hotspot. Also considered was the large number of E.P. Yorke students and teachers who need to use public transport every day. The school says it is aware of the need for face-to-face learning but they quote “prefer to keep our students and entire staff safe as we work as a people to reduce the spread of COVID-19.”
