Active COVID Cases Inching Towards Two Thousand

There are one thousand, nine hundred and twenty-eight active cases of COVID-19 across the country and majority of those new infections are being recorded in Belize District. Notwithstanding stiffer public health measures to curb the infection rate being experienced during this third wave, the numbers keep increasing. Earlier today, Deputy Regional Manager, Dr. Melissa Diaz-Musa, of the Central Health Region, provided the latest breakdown, particularly in Belize City which remains the epicenter of the virus.

“As of today, we have about eight hundred active cases in the Belize District with the majority of these cases being in Belize City.  So there are six hundred and nineteen cases that are active today in Belize City and eight hundred and sixty-two for the district. There are certain public health measures that have been put in place this Monday to help to reduce movement and to help to reduce, I think mainly geared towards socializing.  But in order to ensure that the economic recovery continues, most business places have remained open an in fact, the two Sundays, this Sunday coming and the following Sunday are the only days that have been termed no-movement days.  So every other day we have had movement, however, we are hopeful that even with these measures and that with the continuous health education and the continuous awareness of the situation in the country of Belize and more so in Belize District that we soon reach that peak and we very soon start to recover from this virus.”
