Press Office Director Suspended for Social Media Rant

Mike Rudon

Press Office Director Mike Rudon has been placed on two weeks suspension without pay and he has also been asked to issue a public apology to Imani Fairweather for comments he made following the live coverage of the Independence Day ceremony. The handling of the broadcast was poor and resulted in harsh criticism of the Government Press Office by the social media users. In a letter written to Rudon on Wednesday, Chief Executive Officer Narda Garcia states that Rudon subsequently took to Facebook where he proceeded to engage in a back and forth with the public, quote, uttering comments that have brought your office and the Government of Belize into disrepute, unquote. Rudon’s behavior was deemed unacceptable and as such disciplinary action was taken against him. In his absence, Jeanelle Mencias holds over as acting director. News Five understands that Rudon has since issued a public apology.
