1733 Active Cases; 810 in Belize District

Active COVID-19 cases continue to increase daily. The data up to Monday indicates that there are one thousand, seven hundred and thirty-three active cases and of that amount, eight hundred and ten are in the Belize District. There are twenty-five active hospitalizations and seven ICU admissions. Over the weekend, six new deaths were reported, bringing the total number of deaths to three hundred and ninety-five. But these numbers do not reflect those cases that are asymptomatic, persons who have not sought assistance at any of the healthcare facilities across the country.

“For the Belize district, our active case since Monday is eight hundred and ten active cases. Of course, those are the cases that we know of. There are like many other infectious diseases and many other diseases on a whole, there are cases out there that we may not know of; that may have very mild symptoms, people may be asymptomatic and don’t really test. So it is very important for us to ensure that the population is aware, the community is aware that there is constant transmission, ongoing transmission, community spread so we got to do all that we can in order to protect ourselves and protect our family, especially the vulnerable persons in our family. We started with new measures Monday of this week and as explained last week as well, when you look at implementing measures, you would need to look at four sometimes six weeks after the measures have been implemented to start to see a significant decline. I think that the awareness is now out there; people are definitely certain that there is an outbreak, we do have our wave and the curve is still continuously going up. So I think that we can expect to see some change behaviour in the next week or two and with the addition with the new public health measures, we are hoping that we very soon will reach our peak and start to slowly reduce as persons start to recover.”
